LES ARRIERE PAYS

We are now pleased to be able to offer our guided tours of the Pyrenees Oriental. We are offering two walks this year to start us off, as we wish to provide a service showing our guests the wonders of this region that are usually only known by the locals and we have the pleasure to have been taken on and we soon realised that this was a must do for our clients to show them the region in its true splendor.

Tour A

If you are a keen mountaineer our climb onto the canigou mountain is a must do , with our experienced guide he will pick you up from llauro at 6.30 am and take you to 2400 mtrs on part of the GR 10 and then off the beaten track to the peak “las Galinas” where you have the most stunning panoramic views of the whole mountain range right to the Mediterranean and a truly breathtaking encounter with the Canigou mountain, this is a fairly hard walk about a four hour climb and a 2 1/2 hour descent , be warned this is not for the physically unfit , but is nevertheless a good climb for the novice who is not shy of hard work!! This is a the most fantastic walk we have ever been on so is highly recommended to get a real feel for the Pyrenees.
A good local picnic of local produce will be supplied and a stop off visit at Antoines fromagery to pick up real Pyrenees mountain sheep cheese is a must!!(Please let us know of any special diet requirements)

Prices are from 50 euros per person (minimum 2 persons) an extra charge of 30 euros for the day to be accompanied by an English speaking translator as our guide is very French!!

Tour B

This is a much shorter walk but no less panoramic and more local , starting from the village of Oms 5 mins drive from Llauroand takes you up to the peak of Mont Helene which is a small mountain covered in wild herbs, wildly aromatic, experience a fabulous panoramic view of Rioussilon from the Corbiere” to the “Alberes” mountain range . This is a small few hour walk that can be taken as an afternoon or morning walk and is of a more gradual ascent negotiating a simple dirt track all the way to the top exhilarating after meal walk on a Sunday afternoon!! Refreshments provided
